Pregnancy Tool: Decision Making Made Easy
Hello lovely ladies!
Decision making can be tricky at the best of times, but never more so then when you are pregnant: You are responsible for another human being and know that every decision you take will influence them too! And even more tricky: You can’t even see, let alone talk to that other human being yet. So, how do you know what’s best? Here’s a really easy tool that will show you how you can just know and don’t ever have to wonder or argue with yourself again.
Imagine that you have to decide whether to have a home birth or to go to the hospital. Wow, such a big one! You feel it is very important for you and your baby to do the right thing here. But how do you know what that is? Here comes the pregnancy tool for easy decision making: Sit down in a comfortable position or just stand still with your spine straight. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths in and out. Relax your body, let all the tension go from your shoulders and face. And then imagine the first scenario. Giving birth at home. What comes up first? Is it a good image or feeling? Or a bad one? Does it feel light, or heavy? If the first thing that comes up is fear or a heaviness in your stomach or elsewhere, then a home birth might not be the right thing for you. If on the other hand you feel relief or joy coming up or just a lightness, then you know, a home birth could be good for you and your baby.
Does that seem like too easy a process to base important decisions on? Let me tell you something that has become very clear to me from my own and my client’s experiences: Figuring things out never works! Thinking, brooding, discussing - everything that involves a frantic activity of your brain will never get you where you want to be. Here’s a secret: You already know! You already know what is good for you and your baby and what isn’t. You just sometimes have trouble trusting and accessing this knowing. That’s why people meditate! To reestablish that connection with ourself and to go to a place where we know.
This little process I’ve shown to you works for everybody I’ve ever tried it with, so I’m sure it will work for you too. All you need are 2 minutes of quiet time to yourself and with a little practice, it will only take you seconds and can be done anywhere.
If you are afraid that you can’t trust this intuition because you are prejudiced in favour of one option, you can try this: Write the options on separate sheets of paper, then turn them over, mix them until you don’t know where which one is anymore and then step on one of them first and feel into it
Try it now! Ask yourself: What can I do right now that is good for me and my baby? Then think of 3 different possibilities and see which one feels best to you by listening in and stepping into knowing. And then do it!
I can’t wait to hear from you how this tool is working for you, please comment below or write me an email!
Wishing you all the happiness in the world, Lily
