Yoga - What is it really and is it for me?

Hello lovelies! 

Everybody has heard of yoga and many have practiced yoga postures, called asanas. Yet I doubt that many people have experienced what yoga really is. The essence of everything that is cannot really be described with words. Yet I will try to make you glimpse enough of this world that has opened to me and which has brought so much ease and joy to my life.

Yoga is often translated from the Sanskrit word to mean union. A union of body, mind and breath, a union of myself with everything that is, a union of everything light and dark within me. In consciously uniting our movements with our breath and our mental focus while practicing asanas, we can experience the oneness of everything that exists. This is the true reason for yoga being such a hype: We are starved for spiritual experiences in our western societies.

As I mostly teach those new to yoga, I often get asked whether yoga can help with that person’s specific physical or emotional problems. So to be even more precise, I will list common human afflictions here that yoga can help with: 

  • Chronic backache 
  • Slipped disks
  • Chronic tiredness
  • Chronic headaches
  • Problems with concentration
  • Infertility 
  • Short- and farsightedness 
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Pregnancy aches
  • Depression
  • Recuperation after illness or operation
  • Feelings of overwhelm

  • Emotional pain and loss
  • Feeling lost in the world

The list goes on! Yoga is one answer to all the health problems and poor mental states we experience today. Yoga moves your body in ways that are deeply healing, you become stronger, more flexible, your breath expands, dopamine floods your brain and makes you feel happy. You learn how to relax your mind, how to not constantly think. You will feel liberated after each well instructed yoga class and after some time, you will see how the yoga mindset will flood your whole life, bringing peace and joy to your relationships, your work, your nutrition, your sleep and everything else.
